What is visual journaling?
To be more specific, visual journals combine text with images. Visual journaling is a creative way to express and record one's experiences, feelings, and emotional reactions--one's inner world both visually and verbally. Working with pictures accesses a different part of our brains than words. When you include a variety of visual imagery such as doodles, sketches, and photos, in addition to making notes on specific feelings and observations, you strengthen your thinking and understanding about yourself and the world around you. This mix of words and images will help shape and convey your thoughts to others. In turn, the attention to detail that visual journaling creates increases your elaboration skills in not only art but writing as well. This process is a new form of self expression.
You will be creating visual journals through out this year. You will be given various 2 week assignments and you must interpret them in your own way. We we will work in class for one class period for each assignment to be sure everyone has a complete understanding of the assignment given. There is also a "visual Journaling" draw located in the front of the room which contains various items you may use

You may use any materials you like, but consider how the elements of design (color scheme, use of space, texture, etc.) will communicate your message. Write about your fear and how it has affected you.

Visual Journaling Assignment - My Future
When you think of your future, do you see a clear picture, or are there many unknowns? For this week’s visual journal assignment, you will “picture your future”. You get to decide what is meant by “future” – it could mean 20 years from now, 5 years from now, or next year. You could consider your career, your status, your family situation, your life experiences, or anything else you think is important.
Image: Decide if you want to include definite images of what your future might be like, symbols of your future, or just a general impression about how you feel about your future. You may use any media you like: drawing, painting, collage, etc.
Writing: You may choose to do detailed journal writing, or just include a few words that capture your feelings about your future.
